The name Dancing Motes was inspired by a quiet afternoon from my childhood.
I still remember stepping across the high threshold of my grandmother’s old home.
She walked ahead of me toward the kitchen and gently pushed open the vermilion wooden door. As the door slowly opened, golden sunlight poured through the roof, creating several bright beams across the floor.
Inside those beams of light, countless tiny motes were dancing.
They floated, spun, and shimmered as if each little particle carried its own tiny spark. I reached out my hand, and they danced around my fingertips.
Beyond the sunlight, everything remained still — as if that magical little world existed only inside those golden rays.
Then came a gentle sound from behind me.
“Clink… clink… clink…”
I turned around and saw my grandmother reaching into a glass jar, searching for her bedroom key. The soft sound echoed through the quiet kitchen, like a small melody written into that afternoon.
Years have passed.
The old house is gone. My grandmother is gone.
But that moment has never disappeared.
Whenever I close my eyes, I can still return to that afternoon — the sound of cicadas outside the door, the warm sunlight filling the kitchen, and those tiny motes dancing quietly in the air.
